1. The mansion is located in the heart of Bellevue State Park.
In 1976 the State of Delaware purchased the property and opened Bellevue State Park to the public the following year. Over the following 25 years, the Division of Parks and Recreation renovated the mansion, purchased the Mt. Pleasant Meeting House and Parsonage and Cauffiel House, built a band shell for outdoor concerts and converted a former horticulture building into the Bellevue Arts Center. Today, Bellevue State Park offers recreational and cultural activities in a stately setting with elegant gardens and unique meeting places.
2. It’s a former duPont family estate.
A former duPont family estate, the mansion was built by Philadelphia businessman Hanson Robinson in the 1850s. Robinson named the property Woolton Hall. William duPont, Sr. purchased the estate in 1883. He acquired two adjacent properties, increased the size, and added barns, stables and other buildings associated with his equestrian interests. In 1928, William duPont, Jr. inherited Woolton Hall and spent the next several years remodeling the mansion and property, adding tennis courts, a swimming pool and indoor horse training facilities.

3. The mansion has retained much of its historic charm.
Bellevue Hall features an expansive central foyer with a sweeping staircase, ornate marble fireplaces, a crystal dining room, a classic wood-paneled library and a large portico, which opens onto the sweeping side patio. The upstairs offers a stylish bridal suite, a handsomely furnished groomsman’s room and a lovely sitting parlor for the bridal party.
4. The mansion is suitable for indoor and outdoor affairs.
Surrounded by beautiful grounds complete with gardens, a gazebo and patios, the mansion provides an ideal setting for both indoor and outdoor affairs. The spectacular grounds are ideal for tented outdoor affairs, and the perennial garden and gazebo are picture-perfect for ceremonies and photo sessions.
Bellevue Hall
Bellevue Hall was designed as a replica of president James Madison’s home, Montpelier. Today, the hall is open for tours and available for weddings and special events. Delaware State Parks manages a number of beautiful historic sites that also serve as wedding venues. Bellevue Hall at Bellevue State Park is located minutes from I-95 in northern Delaware. Bellevue Hall can accommodate 150 guests and is wheelchair-accessible.
