Every couple has a vision of their perfect honeymoon destination. For some, it’s a vibrant city with a wealth of culture and dining. For others, a quiet beach bedside sparkling waters or an adrenaline-packed outdoor adventure might beckon. Tracy Walker, a travel curator and destination wedding specialist at Rich Events LLC in Middletown, Delaware, shares three of the hottest honeymoon locales of the moment.
Urban Glamour
Milan, Italy, is all about dazzling the senses, from the well-dressed locals strolling about (“Everyone looks like they’re getting ready to star in their own fashion show,” Walker admires) to the rich architecture to the prestige wares sold in its designer shops. Stay at the STRAF Hotel, within easy walking distance of many sights you will want to see: the grand Duomo di Milano cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece constructed between 1386 and the 19th century; the exquisite Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery, for shopping and sumptuous brunch at the Gucci store; and the city’s trendiest eateries and nightspots.
Ocean Oasis
With its multi-blue-hued waters and sugary white sand beaches, Grenada is one of the most beautiful and untamed islands in the Caribbean’s West Indies. The 2-mile-long Grand Anse Beach offers plenty of room for sunning and strolling. Don your snorkel or scuba gear to explore the Grenada Underwater Sculpture Park, the world’s first such attraction. Hike through the vast rainforest of Grand Etang to admire and splash in Seven Sisters Falls, one of the island’s several stunning waterfalls. Visit distilleries, a bean-to-bar production facility and an organic cocoa farm on a day-long rum and chocolate tour. Spend the night at the beachside Silversands Grenada resort.
Grand Adventure
Imagine lying by the pool at your lodge when you spot a couple of rhinos coming for a drink at a waterhole nearby. Or riding in an open-air truck and coming so close to a herd of elephants you could reach out and touch them. At Jackalberry Lodge in Kruger National Park, South Africa, you won’t have to go far to see nature’s most magnificent creatures in their natural habitats. You’ll glamp in a thatched bungalow with four-star service right out in the open wilderness. While you’ll have the benefits of being under a riot of stars, leave the snacks at home: Meals are served by lantern light in the bush or beside a cozy fire, and they’ll make you think you’re at a Michelin-star restaurant.
